Great Gig at Conrad's!

Saturday was really a fine gig. It was an outdoor event, and the weather was perfect. But the strangeness du jour came from Harry this time.

Harry is meticulous about instrument tuning - so much so that he owns a collection of tuners, using tuners to tune the tuners. Ok, OCD aside, Harry tuned up as usual before playing, but this time using his brand-spanking-new Zoom effects pedal. The tuner in it is very accurate, but uses an older-style LED screen for readout - you know, the kind that used to be on Texas Instruments calculators 30 years ago. The problem is that LED screens wash out almost entirely in sunlight, and this being an outdoor gig on a beautiful day, there was no shortage of God's illumination.

Harry claims he could see well enough to tune; however, he didn't notice the little DOT on the screen that indicates a sharp note. So, the genius tuned his A string to A-sharp. Imagine his surprise when playing the first song! One has never before witnessed a more confused face as Harry tried to figure out what was up. Give a monkey a hammer, and you get the idea. Graham easily covered for Harry while our intrepid bassist figured it out.

After that it was smooth sailing, with some rather lively women enjoying themselves with exuberance.
